Pritzker to Crack Down on “Bad Actors” Pretending to Need Medicinal Marijuana
When recreational pot in Illinois is about to become lawful, Pritzker threatens that it will crack down on evil people impacting the supply of medicinal marijuana.
Governor J.B. Pritzker’s office, reacting to increased anxiety with regards to scarcity and price gouging surrounding medical cannabis, threatened Monday that it will crack down on any bad people who may break laws intended to protect patients.
“Illinois is the only state in the country to write protections for medical cannabis patients into the law and the Pritzker administration is working to ensure supply is protected for patients who rely on it,” Pritzker’s spokesperson Jordan Abbudayyeh claimed in a message. “Bad actors who violate the law will face consequences. … The administration will continue to monitor supply as we implement and administer the program.”
The legislation allowing approved selling of up to approximately 1 oz of marijuana on Jan. 1 allows pharmacies to retain a one-month weed supply for authorized patients. Regulators control inventory maintenance for farmers and retailers and may issue fines or revoke or cancel licenses for infringements of the legislation.
Once marijuana purchases are approved at the beginning of January 1, activists have cautioned to expect long queues and shortages, as in other jurisdictions that have regulated purchases. So get yours quick people.
